Yes definitely. But I also think she'd do better w/conservative white people than anticipated. Sure, plenty of them will get riled up by Fox News, but her being a Latina allows her to occupy a less racialized space than Obama was forced to occupy, frankly. And even Republicans now hate rich ppl.

Now I'm not saying a journalist should've punched Trump. What I am saying is that they should have done so metaphorically. With words and stories.

Part of the reason journalism seems to be failing us all in this moment is journalists' rigorous adherence to neutrality, rather than rigorous adherence to the truth.

And the truth is that if a random dude on the street had said that to a woman, someone would've popped him in the face.

Some of the best journalists ever have been people like Upton Sinclair, or William Allen White. And no one ever accused them of not having opinions, of being blandly objective in the face of horror. No, they had a point of view, and they had facts to back it up. They brought receipts.

A) The reporters didn't make themselves the news--Trump did by calling her "piggy." B) Maybe part of the reason that journalists (mostly national-level journalists) are held in such low esteem is that they never, ever push back, even against obvious lies & slurs.

I hear you on Cleaver, I would just like to see him get pushed out of his seat by the next AOC, rather than a GOP gerrymander the resurrects Troost as Kansas City's racial dividing line.
