⚒️ The debate over when plate tectonics started is so philosophically interesting. How do you assess the relative reliability of very different evidence; how uniformitarianism itself is stressed when faced with the drastic changes of a planet over Deep Time.
"I summarize evidence from the six evidentiary types and conclude that we do not know when plate tectonics initiated. Claiming we do forestalls the day when we might truly understand an event at the heart of Earth history and habitability."
