What a difference a day makes! had a pleasant wander around the Santon Downham area yesterday in warm sunshine and calm conditions. Lots of Common Crossbills around showing well, I counted at lest 12, but there were probably more, a 50 plus flock of Siskin and a first Mandarin Duck of the year.

At this time of year, the Jay is more often seen in the garden as they bury acorns which they bring in from nearby woods. A beautiful bird with a bone chilling screech! #Birds!

A surprising fact I learnt this year, was that some birds go for the nectar in Mahonia flowers. I watched both Blue Tits and this female Blackcap do this in my garden this year. #Birds!

I have a pair of Jackdaws that hang around the garden in Spring and Summer, such chipry engaging birds to watch and hear. In Autumn and Winter, they join a flock, I've had 25+ over my garden recently. #Birds!

I see Blackbirds every day in the garden in the Spring, there are 3 pairs which seem to have territories that meet here. In Winter there can be upwards of 15 waiting for food, many of these will be birds from N. Europe that have migrated here. #Birds!

A pair of Common Buzzards breed close by, so they are often over my garden, often being harassed by Corvids! #Birds! #BirdOfTheDay!

I usually get 1 or 2 Blackcaps overwintering in my garden, research suggests these birds come from Germany/N. Europe rather than Uk birds not migrating. I saw a male today. #Birds!

Circumstances mean I've not been on my patch for nearly 3 weeks, but a quick dash down on Monday saw a brief encounter with this Yellow Browed Warbler. Managed this poor photo in bad light, but you can see what it is! #PWC2025
