Got 14, and second guessed myself out of I think two of them.

Still genuinely believe that winning a division with a losing record should not automatically give you a berth to the playoffs. Carolina should cede their spot to (it looks like) the Vikings for instance.

No, they were not at all ashamed;
they did not know how to blush.

We do the same, though it is somewhat infuriating the couple of times (at different restaurants) we’ve done this, only to show up and find our order has been backburnered so that they hit the metrics they need for all the DoorDash etc. orders.

We didn’t originally take that one down for firewood, it was fairly healthy but it was an 80+ ft tall oak in between ours and the neighbor’s house and would have destroyed either if it were to fall. Once we decided to take it down, I was set on saving as much of the firewood as we reasonably could.

Adding this reminder for next year: (1) we use a larger diameter cookie cutter, so yield is closer to 30 or so, (2) we always make well more mashed potatoes than we need for the filling and have leftover, (3) this is probably fine, we still had leftover pierogi to freeze with recipe as-is.

Closing it out, a friend has got me started on the DUNGEON CRAWLER CARL series, which is a fun popcorn snack. I’ll start book 3 in the new year.

Adam Robert’s’ THE THIS was also interesting, and I finished McMurtry’s LONESOME DOVE series. None quite lived up to the first but it was still solid.

In kid’s books, it was a very Sara Pennypacker year with my oldest, and that’s a good thing. HERE IN THE REAL WORLD and LEEVA AT LAST were both great, and her Clementine and Waylon series were both hits.

In theology-land, Kevin Vanhoozer’s MERE CHRISTIAN HERMENEUTICS was fantastic, so much there about shaping how we read and respond to Scripture.

Kierkegaard’s THE SICKNESS UNTO DEATH also had a good bit to chew on.

Kazuo Ishiguro is hard not to like, and AN ARTIST OF THE FLOATING WORLD was potent, examining how we respond to belonging to bad systems.

Back to dystopias, HUM by Helen Phillips is also fantastic, another “human scaled” story, not of fighting the system, but fighting to stay together.
