I can state, for a fact, that nothing good ever comes from ingraining yourself in a belief that you are part of a small, uniquely isolated group that can only ever trust and confide in members of the inner group. This thought process does not make you powerful and does not make it easier to survive. In truth, it makes you MORE vulnerable. It enhances your susceptibility to manipulation and fearmongering, you are more exposed to being stuck in dependent relationships and the hate groups that do want you dead find it exceedingly convenient when you’ve done all of the isolation yourself. No matter how much it feels safe, this mindset will never make you safer.

For every person out there that wants you exterminated, there are more potential friends who will fight tooth and nail for you to live. Who will sit down and play games with you. Who will share a meal and laugh with you. But they aren’t all gonna be inside your designated grouping. There is a gap, I understand that, and it looks really scary down in that abyss, I get that too. But if you don’t try and cross it every now and then you will never know how many people are on the other side just waiting to get to know you.

Example from MTG

Two Magic the Gathering Card. The one on the left is called Progenitus, depicts a world sized hydra, and costs 2 of every mana to play. It's abilities are "Protection from everything" and "If Progenitus would be put into a graveyard from anywhere, reveal it and shuffle it into it's owner's library instead. It's a 10/10, and widely considered unplayable.

The card on the right is called Heartfire Hero, and depicts a mouse soldier using fire magic. It costs a single red mana, and has the special ability Valiant. Valiant — Whenever this creature becomes the target of a spell or ability you control for the first time each turn, put a +1/+1 counter on it. When this creature dies, it deals damage equal to its power to each opponent.

Heartfire Hero is banned for being too powerful
