I’m 55 and I can’t stop laughing at the thought of this.

Glarsetorbury… as a Yorkshireman all the responses above say it all.

That’s quite a hike. Don’t worry, Yorkshire has you covered.

Every government IT project bar two (Universal Credit and Osprey) that I’ve worked on has been crippled by the ‘Commercial Director’ - who then miraculously ends up as a partner in the management consultancy recommending a seven-year discovery.. need better contract law advisers inside government.

You mention JC, the stats are revealing. www.citypopulation.de/en/uk/eastof...

60% turnout of 3,757 in a mostly older, overwhelmingly white, Christian ward, maybe the vicar should say something on Sunday to about 1,700 of them.

In the Home Office? Which bit?

See point 2 from the original thread you responded to.

Claimants IN the system aren’t the issue. I can hear your whistle that people claiming benefits are doing so fraudulently, again distracting from real issues of tax evasion and criminal fraud.

I worked with DWP, Home Office and other Agencies on Benefit Fraud.

Nothing to do with ID Cards.

You seem otherwise rational judging by posts and followers so I’ll gently suggest you learn what gaslighting actually is before misusing it again.

Disagreeing and debating, yes we do and we should carry on.

All UK Gov Departments, Agencies and ALBs (& recruiters) still insist on a utility bill less than 3 months old as Proof of Address.

None of them or the security services trust each other’s records either.

We fix this but not by adding more complexity but by linking what we already have together.

Bad argument 15 years ago when the National ID Card Scheme tried it and still demonising benefit claimants rather than the much bigger issues of serious and organised crime gangs and tax evasion.. which ID cards do nothing to address.

I read it all and I bow to all of your skill, experience, acumen and wit.

One question: Will anything come of this?
September 25, 2025 at 2:39 PM
Similar point to one I tried to make in response to Radio 4’s coverage of Charlie Kirk.

Editiorial leaders at the BBC do manage to ‘repeat’ and amplify all the right wing rhetoric as part of their half-hearted criticism but rarely if ever the same amplifying effect for any other point of view.

Freedom of expression perhaps?

Maybe the BBC has become a commercial organisation at the expense of the independent fabulousness that we need.

In a commercial enterprise, directors set tone and expect certain outcomes.

If the figures at the top of the BBC aren’t doing that, what are they doing?
September 22, 2025 at 9:55 AM
“Setting editorial direction” may not be far removed from “pulling strings". Otherwise what are their six/seven figure salaries for?

It’s not about the money other than it being the arch-motivation for all things.

Obvious villains they may be but Davie, Gibb and Turness being scrutinised seems a good idea. Their history and bias is not far below the surface at all and re-listening to the BBC Origin Stories makes wonder if they are consistent with the ideals.

I have learned, partly by listening to you, never to underestimate the sheer fuckery that my country is capable of, even if people have to become members of the unnamed party to do it.
