I've never been an SCA person, for a few strongly held reasons. I think there's a critical mass of people who speak a common language from these related activities that make random conversations like this possible.

After some prodding, they drop that it was an SCA event. I said that I did HEMA fencing. So then me and a stranger have a small conversation with a stranger about Meyer & Vulgar Destreza. I never got the guy's name.
