Love animals, snakes and dogs in particular. Semi-retired early with my husband, travel a lot. I am a polyglot. Love cycling, cooking, reading and creating things (drawing, sculpting, batik, painting).
Disgusted by the political state of the US.
Details below about my polymer clay snake fundraiser in support of the 67 severely neglected snakes being rehabilitated at Spirit Keeper Animal Sanctuary.

Athens Day 2.
Ancient Agora, and a beautiful evening spent with @suzybates.bsky.social and family up on a gorgeous hill overlooking all of Athens. I love meeting up with great friends in far away places!

Athens Day 1.
We arrived in Athens mid afternoon and got settled at our Air BnB, then went walking. Had dinner not far from our flat and apparently burgers here are just the meat 🤷🏼‍♀️. Lovely Greek salad though. Lots of street art too. Made it until 8 pm and basically died upon hitting the bed.

There is something insanely satisfying about power washing things. I’ve been working on my old dirty fence. What looks like “weathered wood” is often just… dirt.

Finally caved and got some marshmallow slides. I can’t decide if I love them or hate them. They are comfy, I’ll give them that. A little chonky.

Today we sold our Miata. We have had her for 28 years, since 1997 when I bought her brand spanking new after grad school. She was such a fun car for all this time, but it financially makes little sense to keep two cars for us now (more in comments).

The bathroom. Looks so much better white and crisp. It is a small space but bright.

The rest of the laundry room. I did not paint the nook where the machines are. Too hard to take down wire shelves and move machines. Separated the space with some white trim and left that blue. Genius. 🧠🤓

My extra project this week was a long needed refresh on the paint in the laundry and back bathroom. It was formerly a pale sea glass blue but the paint can went by the wayside many moons ago and I lost the color. So I painted it “Fresh Popcorn”. Also drastically simplified it.

This sweet girl got a clean bill of health at the vet this week. Bloodwork and fecal all normal, vaccines updated, weight is perfect. No signs of arthritis. We don’t know her age but we guess about 10-11. We have had her now 4 yrs, 3 months. Love our Chelli girl.

Made Nigella Lawson’s Clementine cake yesterday. Tangerines, eggs, sugar, almond flour, and baking powder. That’s it. Moist and tasty.

Delicious Italian meal at Cuarta in Shinagawa on our last full night in Tokyo.

Daniel and I went up to Senso-ji in Tokyo. We had never been. What a beautiful campus area and grounds. We wandered through stalls and had a lovely afternoon while the kids played around in Harajuku.

Some of the really trippy and mesmerizing rooms at TeamLab Borderless exhibit. So hard to describe this place but it was wonderful.

Delicious little Izakaya Star and Brooke found in Shinjuku and took us back to. I had tsukemen with some katsu chicken.

The Starbucks Reserve Roastery in Tokyo is quite a bit better than a normal Starbucks. Had a delicious treat there, just Daniel and I.

We also visited Hebikubo Shrine, dedicated to snakes. The line to get in and write a prayer tablet and rub their heads for luck was quite long. Six blocks long. We were the only foreigners in the line. It was a cool place.

A visit to Sarutahiko in Ebisu. Our favorite coffee shop.

Moving on to Tokyo, Daniel took me to the Snake Center (cafe) and I held four different snakes. Not gonna lie, as much as I love snakes and enjoyed briefly interacting with them, I always feel bad for these animals and how they are kept in Japan where the focus is on cleanliness.

We visited Uji and stopped by a temple there with a snake statue to rub for good luck. Small but up on a hill with beautiful landscaping.

A few of my snake treasures acquired. A beautiful cloth I’ll frame, a Year of the Snake watch from Swatch, a Starbucks Japan exclusive snake mug, and a handmade clay snake I found at a little artisan shop.
