She often said she appreciated me the most because I was interested in her life. Other grandchildren weren’t. She told me a lot of stories. I miss her dearly. She died 11 years ago at the age of 98.

They ended up in Holland and a few years later she married the man that had opened the train door for them. If someone had not pushed her into the train she would have ended up at a labour camp. She never saw any of her siblings or parents ever again but she was eternally grateful.

My grandma from Siberia in her teens was leaving work and there was a lot of commotion in town, she had no idea what was going on, she was pushed along with a bunch of other women and children packed onto a train.
