We often feel the urge to jump in and help when our kids are solving a problem. Next time, pause before jumping in and try asking a question instead. You might discover your child understands more (or less) than you thought!

Subitizing is your child's natural ability to instantly "see" how many objects are in a small group - without counting them one by one. This skill develops before counting and can help set the foundation for number sense & confidence with numbers.

Anyone else have some candy hearts (or chocolates) hanging around their house? Good news! You can use them to make a sweet little math game that builds your child’s number sense and helps develop their knowledge of addition and subtraction basic facts.

Reveal time! Watch to see what is incorrect.

It’s okay if this was a challenge. The truth is, many of us were taught multiplication in a way that only focused on memorizing facts and discussed little if anything about what it actually means to multiply!

Timed tests emphasize speed and memorization. This can contribute to math anxiety and hinder long-term math success.

Our goal as educators and parents is to help children learn their basic math facts in a way that is rooted in real understanding, not just rote memorization.

We were looking for pictures for a multiplication post and came across this one. We ALMOST used this picture because we loved all the colors but realized there was something wrong! This picture does not accurately represent multiplication.

Can you identify why?
