This gives scientists a unique opportunity to learn how their research fits into soil health monitoring in the European Union and policymaking in general.

This year we have multiple scientific presentation formats and a presentation and discussion with policymakers from DG ENV of the European Commission on the Soil Monitoring Law and the role of science in policy implementation and monitoring.

Further research will be critical for reducing predictive uncertainty for soil erosion monitoring efforts across Europe. This is particularly relevant in the European Union, given the scientific challenges associated with the Soil Health Monitoring Law and other national policy objectives.

Regional differences exist in the accuracy of the predictions exist both before and after bias correction, meaning large scale predictions should account for spatially variable levels of uncertainty in the rainfall inputs.

Extreme events and their seasonality were significantly better represented. Correctly capturing this sub-annual variability is critical to understand how rainfall erosivity interacts with land management practices.

Bias correction is effective for improving the large sample statistical correspondence between gridded predictions and measured rainfall erosivity across the continent. This moves us a step closer to reliably using gridded rainfall predictions in soil erosion modelling.

Here we applied the European Meteorological Observations (EMO) rainfall predictions of the European Flood Awareness System (EFAS), which is adapted to near-real time rainfall predictions. Key take-aways:
