Immaculate Conception by Ling Ling Huang
Rating: 5/5
Brief Review: A fiction with horror and sci-fi elements. This book is descriptive, clever, visceral, and is a conversation piece within itself. I find that it's so relevant to our day and age. Fantastic read

The Lavender Blade by E.L. Deards
Rating: 3/5
Brief Rating: Exorcist conmen who fall in love and end up fighting a real demon. A paranormal romantasy that keeps you on your toes. My biggest gripes were a need for more world building and unnecessary modern words/phrases.

Feral Creatures by Kira Jane Buxton
Rating: 4/5
Brief Review: A delightful sequel to Hollow Kingdom. The stakes are even higher and there's so many conflicts over identity. Still charming, funny, and sad at times. I love this world that Buxton has built.

Hollow Kingdom - Kira Jane Buxton
Rating: 5/5
Brief Review: A dystopian future where animals can rule again, narrated by a crow ft. Other animals. This book was delightful, funny, graphic, and charming. I love the detail that was put into the (our) world.

The Body Scout by Lincoln Michel
Rating: 4/5
Brief Review: A gritty and humorous mystery set in a high tech/post natural body world. Perfectly paced, very well written, and highly entertaining. Reminds me of Disco Elysium and The Wolf Among Us.

Sea Change by Susan Fletcher
Rating: 3/5
Brief Review: A loosely The Little Mermaid inspired book that tackles climate change, discrimination, prejudice, and the need to belong. It was a cute story that addressed serious concerns. A good YA book!

~2025 Reads 30/52~
Direwood by Catherine Yu
Rating: 3.5/5
Brief Review: A 90s YA suburban vampire mystery! I would've been all over this as a pre-teen/teenager. It's bloody and gross at times, but the mystery is so intriguing. I just wish it was a bit longer.

Off with Their Heads by Zoe Hana Mikuta
Rating: 3/5
Brief Review: A Korean Alice in Wonderland inspired dark story. Loved the concept, loved different aspects of the story but it became too "twisted" and "mad" and at some point I had no idea what was happening

Rebel Witch by Kristen Ciccarelli
Rating: 3.75/5
Brief Review: As a whole, I enjoyed this duology! I will say this one was filled with a lot of tropes. I did feel like the end was wrapped up way too quick. Would have loved some extra chapters at the end.

The Shining Sea by Koji Suzuki
Rating: 2.5/5
Brief Review: Not as many horror/suspense elements as expected. I found myself wishing for perspectives of other characters during this read. There were some redeeming parts so overall, it was a just fine read.
