I suspect it is both politics and the economy. Rural areas are already seeing the effects of the Big Bullcrap Bill, along with a reduction in labor due to ICE. Workers see how little their money buys. Others are boycotting Amazon after that ostentatious wedding.

The old trope has to do with that the term was coined in the early 2000s to describe what is now called cancel culture. I wasn't defending anyone, just asking for a clearer terms. It seemed to imply you sided with the GOP which I did NOT want to assume.
