I first used "USans" back in the late 90s, on the NYT forums. No idea if I started it, be kind of cool if I did. I also suggested that Canada be renamed USA, but pronounced "us, eh." Glad that didn't catch on.

Not meant as derogatory at all, just fending off the pedants who always materialize to point out that we (I'm Canadian) are Americans, too. And saving keystrokes.

I spent a summer on a ranch in SW TX in 1977. Everyone hated USBP, but preferred, if they were stopped at one of the ubiquitous roadblocks, that they be real agents, rather than the vigilantes USBP relied on to do the beating, raping, and murdering bit.

Saying that they're a "small bunch of wannabe Nazis" only deflects from reality: a significant percentage of USans are white Christian nationalists who might not be down with murdering babies with their own hands, but aren't too fussed about the "small bunch" of people who are.

B/c it's a hobby: They can join in for a few hours after church on Sunday, be home in time for dinner, keep their day jobs, and never be deployed elsewhere, because even ICE doesn't know (and doesn't want to know) who they are.

ICE will invoke "fog of war" nonsense - never mind that there's no war, and ICE are themselves what they sneeringly refer to as "civilians." ICE are apparently encouraging a war zone/us vs. them mentality that has no place in domestic law enforcement. It's very disturbing.

Seems U-Haul has banned the agents who rented the vehicles used in Chicago. Good. Now they should publish their names, and call on local and state officials to cite them.
