The porcelain tank cover, yes, but not the seat.

I first used "USans" back in the late 90s, on the NYT forums. No idea if I started it, be kind of cool if I did. I also suggested that Canada be renamed USA, but pronounced "us, eh." Glad that didn't catch on.

Not meant as derogatory at all, just fending off the pedants who always materialize to point out that we (I'm Canadian) are Americans, too. And saving keystrokes.

I spent a summer on a ranch in SW TX in 1977. Everyone hated USBP, but preferred, if they were stopped at one of the ubiquitous roadblocks, that they be real agents, rather than the vigilantes USBP relied on to do the beating, raping, and murdering bit.

My kid was a May '85 baby. She could say Go Habs Go! by November. Precocious? Yes. But she was nearly 4 before she figured out that our TV could play more than Hockey Night in Canada.

Saying that they're a "small bunch of wannabe Nazis" only deflects from reality: a significant percentage of USans are white Christian nationalists who might not be down with murdering babies with their own hands, but aren't too fussed about the "small bunch" of people who are.

You've been speaking out, eloquently, for a long time. Thank you.

They're really asking why what you are doing has made so little difference. It's a fair question.

B/c it's a hobby: They can join in for a few hours after church on Sunday, be home in time for dinner, keep their day jobs, and never be deployed elsewhere, because even ICE doesn't know (and doesn't want to know) who they are.
January 19, 2026 at 8:13 PM
ICE will invoke "fog of war" nonsense - never mind that there's no war, and ICE are themselves what they sneeringly refer to as "civilians." ICE are apparently encouraging a war zone/us vs. them mentality that has no place in domestic law enforcement. It's very disturbing.

I'm less alarmed about the likelihood that they haven't thought about it than the myriad horrible outcomes they're entertaining if they have.

Illness, injury and other health-related issues account for nearly 20% of insolvency claims in Canada. Which is of course no reason to oppose our medical insurance scheme(s), just saying.

Seems U-Haul has banned the agents who rented the vehicles used in Chicago. Good. Now they should publish their names, and call on local and state officials to cite them.

Boycott U-Haul and any other businesses that enable this insanity. Without the trains, the Nazis wouldn't have been able to transport their victims to camps to be murdered out of sight.

I got home early one day and found my daughter, 13, wearing my Grateful Dead t-shirt, playing the Beatles, on my stereo, in my room, with a half-dozen friends. She also had a Lehrer album out. I went off and made snacks.

I'm put in mind of the incident in 2016 when 1500 USans in the Port Huron Float Down were blown into Canadian waters near Sarnia. We rescued them all, gave them blankets and refreshments, and bussed them to the border. www.cbc.ca/news/canada/...
'Americans everywhere' as wind blows 1,500 U.S. partiers to Canada | CBC News
An estimated 1,500 Americans illegally and unexpectedly washed up in Canada late Sunday after strong winds blew them across the St. Clair River near Sarnia, Ont.
