It felt like they were only shooting lights out when the starting 5 were together (with Royal). Maybe my imagination? Every other combo has not looked nearly as fluid.

They should never have allowed bets on things like balls and strikes.

This is how it worked in Ohio & then I got back to people in Connecticut & no wives mentioned 😒 IIRC one of my ancestors would not approve a sale while she & her husband were separated/in the process of divorcing. So it could be done, but the woman would have needed some strength of character.

when the records survive, it's great. Though in some places the deeds of sale don't mention the wives and it can be challenging to sort out sons & fathers (& grandfathers, uncles, cousins) with the same given name. But you would be used to that in Wales!

The way your family pronounces the name now probably isn't how the German immigrants pronounced it either. I have family name Eise, which I have always heard family say as "icy", but earliest US records are "Isa."

If there was a boating accident where people died, it might have been mentioned in a newspaper with the names of the deceased. (Perhaps even a Norwegian language newspaper in Chicago?) That might name a town close to where the accident happened.

A newspaper article might clarify the closest town. Seems like you might end up in Canadian records as easily as US records...
If he had property, there should be probate records and/or land deeds. The probate records might include date/place of death. Either would give you last possible date.
