I just am inclined to think that criticism is more constructive/effective/powerful when it's informed and accurate.

I hear you. It's obv reasonable to criticize/object to NYT. And news judgment is subjective, plenty of room for disagreement. I also think people who haven't tried to break a story can have unrealistic expectations for how journalistic institutions operate + what reaches the threshold of "News"
