I don't know why, but for some reason, in my head, was the belief that Hossam was among the kids that would make it; who would live to tell the story of his people, who would get a chance to grieve and then explore what else life had to offer.

I don't know why I held on to that belief.

I just don't understand people who refuse to wear masks in situations like this?! Regardless of whether you are unwell or not, if the family of an ill/immunocompromised person requests that you mask up around them, you mask up!
My grandma passed a couple months ago. I recently found out that it was due to some of her relatives visiting her in the ICU who refused to wear masks and distance. They tested positive for a viral infection that she was very vulnerable to. I can’t understand how their stubbornness cost her life.

According to this news report, Sri Lanka plans to send 15,900 workers to Israel this year.

It is past time that local media & parliamentarians paid more attention to this matter + questioned the government on this.

"Colonial violence only ends with the end of colonialism."
Under colonial occupation there’s no such thing as a ceasefire. The only thing that comes close to it is a temporary pause of systematic death & destruction or a relocation of this violence as we’re seeing in the West Bank. Colonial violence only ends with the end of colonialism.

It was never a “war.”

It was never a “conflict.”

It’s always been a genocidal settler colonial project.

Occasional reminder that there’s no, “it’s too late, its over” for anthropogenic climate change. Every molecule of CO2 that doesn’t go into the atmosphere makes a difference. Preventing 0.1 degree of warming makes a difference. Every bit of climate resilience we build together makes a difference.

At the cost of sounding catastrophic, Meta's lack of fact checking is EXACTLY what led to ethnic riots in SL eight years ago. They had to be banned, and with this, they started introducing regional Trust and Safety teams.
Thanks to layoffs these were mostly crunched down, and now? What a mess.

When we see severe wildfires due to the climate emergency in one part of the world, we must also acknowledge how exorbitant amounts of excess carbon emissions have been produced because of the US-made Israeli bombs used to genocide Palestinians in Gaza. We live on one planet.

I have seen the best of humanity in Palestinian healthcare workers who refuse to abandon their people. They practice life in caring for their patients despite all odds against them. Israel knows this and destroys Palestinian healthcare for it is where humanity and life persist.

These days have been so heavy. The weight of the suffering in the world feels unbearable at times. I am reminded again as of late, that to feel deeply - to mourn and to grieve and to be enraged - is to be human resisting against the politics of dehumanization.
