A postcard I sent my Dad years ago because it reminded me of summers in Roy, New Mexico. It's really a painting by NM painter Peter Hurd and probably from a scene near Roswell.

Breakout book of the Difficult Book group, which recommends u see 7 Sidney Poitier movies 1st. Finished No Way Out (1950) tonight. Next is Band of Angels (57), The Defiant Ones (58), Lilies of the Field (63), Guess Who's Coming to Dinner, In the Heat of the Night (67) and Buck and the Preacher (72).

As part of John Candy movie week I was at the end of Splash trying (stupidly) to figure out the rules of this magical world. Why can't he come back? She came back. Then I realized the movie had moved into a symbolic place. He couldn't follow her/ jump into love because he didn't know how to swim.
