And, in actual canon fashion, he thought "OK, you want to paint me like that - I'm GOOD at this, so fuck it." Because he grew up without support, so walking away from what he does well AND feels some autonomy and power from is difficult, even if he knows it's not good.

I'm still thinking about this. What about celibate devotional orders, with their own rituals surrounding going through heat/rut without sex? As a communion with divine higher energy, funneling all that desire and ecstasy toward God, or nirvana, a higher plane.

I love The Great North. I agree, the first few were iffy while they were finding their feet, but sticking with it pays off as they get better and you get to know the characters and their relationships better.
