This is wider than the Guardian. Multiple journalists reporting the same line of briefing, senior Ministers refusing to say they wouldn't break the pledge, a Chancellor who made a highly unusual pre-budget speech. Both left and right leaning media conspiring to make this up seems very far fetched.

Share your frustration but why do you assume the press make them all up rather than considering politicians might brief their ideas out then get cold feet? Or brief them out to swing things their way in interdepartmental battles?

Does that prohibition still stand? I do tend to flip between separating plastics for recycling and binning them for incineration because of the vast quantities "lost" in some overseas operations.

Still worth the trip though. Then a short walk from the ferry to Ardgour Ales to sit in the beer garden drinking their beers while looking straight down Loch Linhe and the Great Glen.
Stunning spot. Lovely people. Delicious beer.
