Delighted to join the 10th Winter School on Economics of Competition Law (organized by CIRC) to discuss the extraterritorial reach of antitrust laws—how global enforcement works, where it fails, and why it matters for protecting sovereignty and fair markets. Many thanks to the organisers!

The Limited State model has reached its limits. Successive crises have led to the return of the Expansive State — more active, strategic, and interventionist.
My new WuW piece places this shift in German & EU context: 🔗 research.owlit.de/document/08f...

Who sets the rules when global trade, competition law and national sovereignty intersect?
In my new @rtebrainstorm.bsky.social piece, I look at how states compete for regulatory authority — and how the battle for regulatory sovereignty will shape the next decade.

Who writes the rules in today's changing world?
Many of the international rules which have held sway for decades are now ignored or challenged by governments seeking regulatory sovereignty

New article out: ‘Competition Law and Policy in Crisis and the Rise of the Expansive State’
It traces the paradigm shift from the ‘Limited State’ to the ‘Expansive State’, and what this means for antitrust enforcement and policy.

Delighted to have contributed to the 9th UN Conference on Competition and Consumer Protection—the UN’s top forum in this field, held every five years.
I spoke on the work of the UNCTAD Working Group on Cross-Border Cartels, which I academically led.

They say loyalty pays. Not when it comes to your bills. A short piece from me on the loyalty penalty—why staying put can cost you more than you think, and what that means for competition.

Are you being ripped off by the 'loyalty penalty'?
From banks to insurance, companies punish loyal consumers with higher prices, while new customers are rewarded with better deals

Curious about the EU's Foreign Subsidies Regulation (FSR)? It was great fun reconnecting with Lena Hornkohl (Vienna) and Eddy de Smijter (EU Competition) to reflect on its first year. Thanks to @oandriychuk.bsky.social for bringing us together. Watch the video here: www.youtube.com/watch?v=cEaA...

This think piece, which underpinned my recent presentation at the UNCTAD Working Group on Cross-Border Cartels, explores how competition authorities can strengthen enforcement and close regulatory gaps in tackling cross-border anti-competitive practices. Enjoy! pureadmin.qub.ac.uk/ws/portalfil...

This has not been a dawn raid! Colleagues from the Competition and Markets Authority visited @qubelfastofficial.bsky.social with a terrific Guest Lecture for our Competition Law students. We heard a lot about the CMA's work, its impact, the more recent developments and career opportunities.
