I’m not sure about the broader European context, but in my local network here in France, there’s a clear consensus that what happened constitutes scientific misconduct, and a shared sense that action is needed to ensure this doesn’t happen again.

At this point, our community should take a clear stance: this team's work is, at best, scientifically dishonest - and at worst, fraudulent. Perhaps it's also time to discuss concrete measures, such as blacklisting their JWST proposals or requiring additional reviewers for their publications ...
