Books, film, music, Ipswich Town FC, Clapton CFC, dog dad, former Mr Music Week, current Mr Official Charts. Opinions my own.
Mercury nominated Joe Webb Trio at the PEX Jazz Club in Dean St. Splendid way to end the week.

Flesh is a brilliant novel and deserved Booker winner. But (warning for the faint of heart) it is also particularly explicit in parts.
More importantly however, it may also be the first Booker winner to feature the pelican crossing at the end of our road. 😃

If you see this, post an album cover with a motor vehicle on it.

Among the downsides of a team on the up is that away section tickets sell out instantly, so watching my team with the opposition fans has become a bit of a habit. Today was the 8th time I've had to sit on my hands in 18 months - & (as a 4-1 victory) easily one of the best. #ITFC #COYB

Brilliant piece here from Saturday’s @theguardian.com by Rob Evans about the mysterious sources of Mr Windsor’s wealth - it includes this summary of the motivation behind his relationship with Epstein. Damning.

After a crappy week for my football team, a bit of this would not go amiss today. 12.30pm kick off. Come on!!!

"Why do we play with three drummers on stage? Because it's the limit. If it was down to us we'd have 50 drummers," Soulwax, Rough Trade East, Oct 23rd 2025.

Being a statto, I love the detail - that's 736 games in all, including 620 Ipswich Town games (the first one on October 23 1976), 47.9% of which saw us win, an average of 1.56 goals scored to 1.13 conceded. And look at those most-seen *other* teams, home and away...

Some 250 miles from home, not the best place to lose a key football match, on the telly. But sometimes it happens.
Last night also happened to be my 100th English football ground, current and now demolished, league and non-league), 111th in all, across 45 seasons.

To anyone wavering over whether to check out I Swear - don't delay. A superb, intensely moving film, it shouldn't be missed.
The bonus for me today was seeing it at the beautiful art deco Tyneside Cinema in the center of Newcastle.
Quite a double bill. 😍😍

Well, it wasn't the result I wanted personally, but what a boring world it would be if we all agreed on everything. Great show though (congrats to Maggie, Jo & at the BPI) and Sam Fender raised the roof with his win. 👏👏👏👏👏

And Joe Webb’s spectacular album swings and grooves in ways few albums can, bringing together classic piano licks with contemporary influences
- the album closer Hiraeth representing an attempt to create a “chilled” version of Oasis’s Shakermaker. Would love it to win.

Carthy’s album is a fascinating piece of work, including a reimagining of seven tracks from his debut in 1965 (60 years ago!), aurally reflecting the passage of time and underlining his continuing impact on folk around the world. A win would be deserved, both for this album and his iconic career.

Alon may be the most likely winner of these three, their debut a soaring, vulnerable, emotional rollercoaster of an album, packed full of gorgeous, visceral love songs. Stunning album.

Match 2 of 5 in 13 days, this time a 4-2 home win for Clapton CFC vs Rayleigh Town in the Thurlow Nunn Eastern Counties Lge, Div 1 S.
Big result for the Tons vs a decent side; think we go 4th with a game on hand.
Meanwhile Bobby is distracted by a big stick. @claptoncfc.co.uk #nonleaguedogs

And, of course, a 1968 rejection letter from Peter Asher of Apple Records. "Apple is not interested in signing David Bowie... We don't feel he is what we're looking for at the moment..."
October 12, 2025 at 7:42 PM
And there is the David Bowie Centre. Alongside (impossibly tiny) outfits, artefacts & awards, was this 1998 note, including the prediction that the labels “are going to fight MPEG3 tooth & nail” to protect their reliance on the CD. “Let me go on record as being the first to oppose that view”.

It is easy to imagine spending hours wandering through the corridors, or examining close up items you can personally select - items ranging from Ronnie Barker's Bafta to a huge piece of an East London brutalist council block.

Popped into the incredible new V&A East Storehouse in Stratford today. Completely knocked out by the sheer scale of the place. Get hold of a ticket if you can, by hook or by crook.

An excellent 4-1 win for @claptoncfc.co.uk yesterday, in front of 1,057 people, a huge crowd for level 10.
