Theatre, books and martini’s.
Sydney.
My level of festive decoration is limited to silly (and expensive) LEGO sets and Christmas themed bottles of gin.

This afternoon I saw ‘Who’s Afraid of Virginia Woolf’ at the STC. A good play with some strong performances but it did not need to be nearly 3 and a half hours (with 2 breaks). 🎭
And I’ll say it again. If you’re seeing a play, turn off your bloody phone!

A wild Saturday night here building the Pixar mascot Luxo Jr. LEGO set.

My spooky effort for Halloween.

Aged another year today and pulled a back muscle during my HIIT workout. Growing older is fun.

I had about 7 mins to eat this dessert before they kicked us off the table for the next sitting but it was delicious.
Highlight of my night tbh.

First HIIT workout in more days than it should be. Everything hurts. Help.

Today I saw ‘Whitefella Yella Tree’ at the Wharf 1 Theatre. This is a devastating and tender queer Indigenous love story. This play first appeared in 2022 and I’m so glad I got to see it on its return. Lighting and sound design simply excellent and the two actors superb in their roles. 4.5/5

Sydney has some of the best locations to go and see some theatre.
And overcast day but gosh it’s warm.

Enjoying a few days in Melbourne and this Filipino style restaurant was delicious. The ‘Kare Kare’ hash brown and sticky adobo lamb ribs were a highlight.
And in true old-man style, I am heading to bed at 9:30pm. Satisfied and content.

I just did a core workout that involved too many plank variations and my arms were not ready.

Spent the past 30 mins dancing around my lounge room to this Diana Ross classic.
That’s my exercise done for the day. 🕺💃

Tonight I saw ‘The Talented Mr. Ripley’ at the Sydney Theatre Co.
Pacing a touch slow in parts and slightly too long for me at 2 hours but lead actor Will McDonald is a talent. Compelling as the deranged Tom Ripley. Set design simple but strong and supporting cast did well. 4 stars.

Everything suddenly feels fine with the return of Only Murders in the Building.
Never skipping that opening sequence intro.

Book 12 in 2025 is In Spite of You by Patrick Lenton. This queer rom-com is funny and addictive. I loved the concept and not just because I can be full of spite and enjoy a revenge plan.
It’s a lot of fun and steamy in all the right places. Do recommend.

The only good thing about today is the delivery of these Sarah Blasko vinyl records. 20th anniversary edition for ‘The Overture and the Underscore’ and ‘What The Sea Wants, The Sea Will Have.’

I have been very inconsistent with my exercise due to reasons but today’s workout felt good.
Too many lunges though which my legs will tell me about tomorrow.

Today’s at-home HIIT workout started with the attractive Apple Fitness instructor declaring we were channeling our “inner kangaroo”.
What followed was A LOT of jumping.

Today I saw the play ‘Grief is the thing with feathers’ at Belvoir St Theatre.
A commanding performance from Toby Schmitz but felt play lost its way toward the end. A woman behind me sobbed during most of it. I didn’t feel it warranted but each to their own.
Worth a ticket to see Toby. 4 stars.

A before workout selfie this week. Too many sweaty selfies in my timeline of late.

Time to undo any progress I made this week with my fitness workouts. Cheers. 🍸

This is how I look when my Apple Watch tells me I’ve broken a new personal record for number of KJ burnt in a HIIT workout.
I’m not made for this level of physical activity!

Book 11 for 2025: I Regret Almost Everything by Keith McNally.
This is a memoir of a New York restaurateur I had never heard of.
There’s levels of vulnerability within all the name dropping and tales others might not want told. McNally seems an unlikable character and not someone I want to meet.
