Tall thin colourful man working in advertising, living in Camberwell, and cycling in Kent. Labour moderate. Favourite phrase: "two things can be true at once", which I'm hoping I'll feel minded to deploy less often here than I do at The Other Place...
Also minor point, but if 45% of your group is over 35, and 10% are over 55, maybe you need to look for another name than "contrarian youth"?

Gender fluidity famously has no connection with popular music.

A movie you've seen more than 7 times, as a GIF.

Animal Protection Index has a few thoughts on this.

I'm still struggling to figure out who this slogan is talking to?
I can't vote her out for years.
The only person who can axe her is Starmer.
And if she puts up tax it'll be at his instruction and with his support.
Is she trying to change his mind?
Make it make sense.

"Boyband Five" sounds like what a state-sponsored boyband might be called in some kind of dystopian future, after Boybands One to Four erred from their agreed messaging.

Sad to report I missed out on the Ballon D’Or, too.

Seems a bit unfair on Victoria Coren Mitchell when it was clearly a failure of the scriptwriters / fact-checkers / production team.

Sorry but this is, and again sorry for using a technical writing term, rubbish.

You'd have thought the bottom paragraph was the unfortunate young man's biggest mistake, but apparently not.

Is James Esses being paid by the Wes 4 Leader campaign?

Well I guess that's fucking fine then, fucking thanks.

Lemon *what*, sorry?

Thought for a second that the Guardian blind date WAS Nick Cave and Roberta Flack.

Was it, by any chance, taken by a professional photographer at the match pointing their camera at the player and pressing the shutter several times as they were about to hit the ball?

I thought long and hard about this intractable philosophical debate, and then someone told me what the "A" stood for.

The proscription of Palestine Action is almost certainly wrong and very certainly counter-productive. But also, this is pretty disingenuous from both arrestee and journalist, when the whole protest was literally about deliberately holding a sign that might well get you arrested.

Yes.
(Plus if I was Labour I'm pretty sure I'd be happy to have landed a blow on Farage, and ignore what's mostly a bit of mildly disingenuous pearl-clutching when asked about it in a poll.)

Far be it for me to doubt the motivations of our ever-vigilant civil libertarians, but isn't it odd that 2 out of 2 examples of the alleged infringements of the Online Safety Act relate to their ability to whip up anti-immigrant sentiment?

Is this good? Should we be encouraging more career-suicide bombings?
July 20, 2025 at 4:08 PM
It wouldn't. This is a stretch of your own imagination and is not even remotely hinted at in the terms of reference of the inquiry.

Guardian's resident Letby Truther scraping the bottom of the barrel here. But second-most read story on the site so I guess they let him carry on.
