Lots of very valuable advice in that post. My favourite: use AL32UTF8. Please. It’s 2025 and all databases really should use it. I have seen too many cases where a single byte character set bit you after initial deployment (we do not use Unicode is not the right approach)

At least in Java/JDBC it’s the same, eg no extra round trip.
