Chile has had the sharpest fertility decline in the world. Between 2023 and 2024, the number of births decreased 22,3%. Proyections estimated that in 2024 the TFR will be 0,88: the lowest in the Americas and one of the lowest in the world

Gender inequalities are one of the main factors driving fertility decline. Countries with the lowest male contribution to housework and childcare also have the lowest fertility rates
