The exhibition draws on an ongoing research project involving over 20 scholars from around the world, who have been incredibly generous with their time and expertise and have taught me a lot. Publications from the project will appear in 2026.

As more women turn to karate, the sport has become a symbol of Iran's changing society, where a young, urban generation is quietly challenging traditional gender roles and societal norms.
Iranian girls use karate to kick down social barriers
All martial arts were temporarily banned for women after the 1979 Islamic Revolution but were later reinstated under stricter dress code regulations.

Just finished reading "Anko Itosu. The Man. The Master. The Myth", written by acclaimed researcher Thomas Feldmann. Overall fantastic piece! Feldmann tells a detailed, interesting story about the life of Itosu and backs it up with countless sources, which he also places into historical context.
