🍈🌾🎃Grass heap experiment produced one Crown Prince squash! Gardening friends advised removing other flowers so the plant could focus on this solo beauty.
Today I’ll roast astonishing coloured squash (with walnuts added later), to make a pasta dish + Sage butter 🌱

Upon the 1970s olive/khaki kitchen worktop are 2 white bowls. One has peelings & seeds from Crown Prince squash. The other contains its beautiful orange flesh, cubed. In sunshine & supported on a thin wooden platform grows a pretty pale green squash. Pic from earlier this Summertime. Its vine and a couple of leaves also rest on the surrounding grass Happy to revisit this pic from Summer of beautiful mango-coloured yellow/orange Crown Prince squash flower. Arranged in a jam jar of water on outdoor table with Red Valerian, OxEye Daisy, pink pelargonium & hay-scented Melilot flowers Solitary Crown Prince squash growing on its vine, which emerges from a grassy compost heap. I made an attempt to weave little twiggy fences to contain the heap, mostly blown sideways by our Sou’Westerlies! A couple of Field Maple saplings are sheltered by the heap. Mix of long & shorter grass behind + gate

Enjoying every drop of sunlight & colour & every petal 🌈✨💕🌸
Downward facing rose in sunshine after stormy rain. Old Blush rose, delicate sugar pink petals, slender stems. Wild grassy bank behind with possibly a Violet flowering? Late bloomer - Hesperantha coccinea has a cluster of beautiful pink flowers on a tall stem. In a pot shared with Cotoneaster & other plants from way back in our previous home Peachy pink Begonia flower in sunshine with succulents around same pot Swishy copper coloured grass, blown horizontal by storm winds - can’t recall its name? Pink flowers of Oxalis, magenta Dianthus flowers + Mexican fleabane daisies tumbled all together in sunlight.

Charlie dog was a white Staffie x terrier? My best pal/neighbour adopted him from Battersea Dogs & Cats Home. Here Charlie is in Autumn leaves on grass at the park, with one of many favourite green tennis balls in his mouth. Charlie is wearing a bright striped crochet ‘grandad gilet’ - made by me (Nanny). He made life brighter for all who met him.

Finished us in our previous home - & the poor dogs/wildlife.
If you suffer with PTSD - excessive explosive sound is traumatising.
All good to celebrate Diwali, but fireworks got louder/longer each year.
Smoke still in the air next morning, an asthmatic's nightmare.

Pic of Charlie dog lying in half-light. He was terrified of firework flashes & excessive loud sudden bangs. He tried to hide under furniture, heart pounding. Caring for him at these times was traumatic for all concerned. Love.

Mum is maybe age 22? In wartime 1940, portrait of her smiling face. Blessings. Window behind has white floral motifs. Mum + flowers = joy xx Rose *tree* maybe seven+ feet tall? Two coral pink roses high up. Beside is a Holly bush with red berries. Above is a deep blue sky.

New appreciation for a grey day. Plant family enjoyed warm sunshine yesterday, while I struggled with low energy grumps …

Colourful terracotta pot painted with ochre, red & blue swirly flowers. In the pot is a small Rosa x odorata ‘Bengal Crimson’ - wavy slender stems & darling tiny rosebuds. Irresistible, from Great Dixter plant fair at weekend. In a rusty old metal plant stand (had since 1980s) a terracotta bowl sits within remnants of a twiggy hanging basket. In the bowl are various succulents. Behind is a wild grassy bank with purple asters Tall sprays of mauve aster flowers - a pink Old Blush China rose leans into an Elder bush Coral pink flower spikes of Persicaria/Bistort on a bank of mostly dry grasses.

Flower cluster of Feverfew. Daisy-like with white petals & yellow centres. Lime green feathery foliage. Mauve flowers of Aster - some have yellow centres, some have turned brown. A bee is visiting - s/he is amber/brown almost like the spent flowers. Bright blue star-shaped Borage flowers, downy buds, leaves & stems Underneath green OxEye Daisy foliage - a tiny newt on dark soil
