On the rail trail

You know how Captain Hook wanted to defeat Peter Pan and the lost boys by presenting them with a terribly rich cake? And they would eat it and, I guess, die? Because they didn’t have a mother to stop them? This might be that cake.
Terribly rich carrot cake. No one could finish their piece. That NEVER happens to me.

My poem in the Bennington Review
The poem reads: Everything is almost not here/ like the surface of a bubble / burst to mist / and still I have to get out of bed / and go to work / for forty years / after which it has come to my attention that I will die / certainly I am angry / I should have tunneled out / l had my spoon/ but the days slip by in a dream / just keeping the atoms organized / patted into the shape of a body / until by some bungle / or lapse of attention / the structure gives way / like a balsa wood bridge / tested to failure / reverting to prior condition / as pile of sticks
