Between the emotional comedown of a years long journey ending, feeling like her purpose had been lost, and her found family (Scions) going their separate ways, she just let herself drown. I’ll spare the details, but the worst part wasn’t just her family finding her, but learning her efforts to shield them from how the WoL role affects her were in vain. Hearing from their own mouth that the trauma was in watching a train wreck in slow motion, and all efforts to stop it being met with her sending them away— denying any stress at all— getting curt— doing something impulsive and dangerous that others cheered on as bravery, or “well done heroics.” Her and the entire world making them feel insane for thinking this wasn’t okay. That she made them feel anxious, afraid, and helpless for years. That it amounted to a terrifying moment. They’ve forgiven her— but I don’t know that she’ll forgive herself easily. She’s not taking well how this shattered the illusion that childhood trauma is easily avoided with “good” parents. I think it crushed a fantasy she had about herself and her own childhood.”
