Borders aren't real.

Grow and share food.

Montréal. Canadian hardiness zone 6a (~USDA zone 5b).
This is my third year with my cherry tree and second with my apricot tree. This year they both flowered for the first time and have set fruit! Yay for both surviving the Montreal winter in pots! 🌱#gardening

Pepper lovers, what peppers are you trying in your garden this year? I am starting: aji charapita, sweet banana, dragon roll, yellow biquinto, corno di toro, pasillia bajio and capsicum flexuosum (super cold hardy variety). 🌱 #gardening #peppers #urbangarden 🍽

Gardeners from all around the northern hemisphere are sharing photos of snow drops and spring buds. Meanwhile in the great white north—yes that is my back garden door half covered with snow. I had to climb the fence from the alley and roll across the yard to dig it out! 🌱 #canadagardens #gardening

Does anyone else tap their own trees in the city or suburbia? Throwback of our sugar maple spring of 2023 (we didn't tap last year because it was too warm too early and I wasn't sure when to start it). I can't wait for this year. 🌱🍁 #gardening #permaculture #spring

I have a banana plant in the corner of my living room, and whenever the winter blues start to get me, I just sit and stare at it a while and it perks me up. What are your secrets for fighting the winter blues? ❄️🌬🌱🥰 #gardening #winter

In the deep of Canadian winter, just on the other side of a brick wall from the swirling morning snow and frigid January winds, citrus blooms peek from under a veil of green! I love my indoor winter garden: it sure helps keep the winter blues at bay! 🌱

As beautiful as this dandelion is in my garden on New Years Eve, this is not normal for Montreal. Though it seems to be the new normal, because every year I am surprised by something growing or staying green or surviving that shouldn't... 🌱

Rest in power Nikki Giovanni. Her poem «Allowables» changed something in my understanding of the world and my place in it. It's the kind of poem that could change the world, if we allow it to.

Bringing pepper plants in for the winter and then leaving them alone for a few days reminds me just how much heavy lifting predatory insects, trap crops and weather does to keep my garden relatively pest free. Never saw an aphid on them outside. 🌱

Can anyone ID this bug on my potted lemon (indoors atm)? I am thinking springtail but slightly worried it's thrips. Only saw one, and it didn't jump. Just dealt/am dealing with citrus mites that came in with a new plant and spread to all my citrus. 2 of my citrus dropped all their leaves. Any tips?

Has anybody tried bringing a spruce tree in for a few weeks during the winter? The kids want a living Christmas tree and I bought this Alberta spruce in the spring, but I am worried about stressing it out by bringing it in to warm temperatures for a month and then back out in January. Thoughts?

I had leftover pumpkin seed flour from yesterday's cake so I made this chestnut and pumpkin seed yeast cake. The rise was good and eggs provided structure. 🌰🍽🌳
