Hey there, I'm a mineral collector and a furry. I graduated from Western Carolina University with a degree in geology in 2023. My fursuit was finished that same year by Cave Creature Creations.
Happy Halloween, yappin' about rocks that I'll be passing out at Carolina Furfare. This is coal from Sharon, West Virginia, and it dates back to around 315 million years ago. At this time West Virginia was covered by an ancient swamp.

Here's a closer look at Henry the Sea Scorpion! Here I'm using a macro lens to showcase some of the more intricate details of this fossil. The high quality preservation allows for very subtle details of this prehistoric predator to be preserved.

Running through the anatomy of Henry The Sea Scorpion. Anatomy is a hugely important part of Paleontology, and understanding the anatomy of your fossils will tell you a lot about the animal that left it behind.

These Brachiopods would have lived in a shallow ocean that covered much of ancestral North America some 420 million years ago. Simple animals, they lived anchored to the ocean floor and fed in microorganisms drifting in the water column.

You can hear the plague in my voice, on antibiotics and hoping to be better by the weekend. This is a sample of Tourmaline from the Crabtree Emerald Mine, NC. Tourmaline is a mineral most commonly found as elongated black crystals in igneous rocks.
