Another antique store find: Helene Schlapp Leach, 1851-1922. Born in Iowa to German immigrants. Her family were brewers and well known in Davenport. Married to a tinsmith with a stove and tinware business. Photo purchased at Doodads antique store in Davenport, Iowa. #foundphotos

I like to buy old photos from antique stores and reunite them with their families. This is 28-year-old Nellie Smith Pritchard in September, 1914. She and her infant son died in childbirth Nov. 30, 1914. Her first baby, a girl, lived only four days. Bought at Columbus Antique Mall in Columbus, WI.

He only had one orange brain cell, but I loved him to pieces. Rest in peace, buddy.

"Trumpism will not be defeated by politicians inside the DC Beltway. That is not going to happen. It will be defeated by millions of Americans in Nebraska, in Iowa, in Vermont, and all over this country who come together at the grassroots level like we are doing tonight." #Omaha #BernieSanders

I got tired of doomscrolling so I started a string quilt. #quilting #sewing #quiltsky

Cría Cuervos does a great job showing how scary and confusing childhood can be. Ana Torrent, also in The Spirit of the Beehive, is my favorite child actor, hands down. "Porque te vas" is a catchy tune that I'll be adding to my playlist. Geraldine Chaplin is Charlie Chaplin's daughter! #1001movies

These are easier to knock out when you don't have to piece together patchwork. #sewing #quilting

Interesting concept but doesn't make for compelling cinema. Mostly just people walking around languidly. I fell asleep. I hate that the mens' suits look like they are from the 1970s, when the film was made, and not the 1930s, when it was supposed to take place. #1001MoviesToSeeBeforeYouDie #filmsky

Nice to get out of the house once in a while. It was fun to hear film scores played live. #filmsky

Fourth one done. This one was mostly made with stuff I already had on hand. Pattern is "patchwork duffle mini" from Knot & Thread Design. I think I'll do it again but with hot pink straps next time. #quilting

Just finished "Jeanne Dielman, 23 quai du Commerce, 1080 Bruxelles." Now I wish we hadn't fast forwarded through so many of the cooking and cleaning scenes. I see why paying attention to the details, no matter how mundane, is important. #1001MoviesToSeeBeforeYouDie

Books I read in 2024. Lots and lots of British Library Crime Classics, my first Raymond Chandler, and a book so bad it made me angry. #booksky

Celine & Julie Go Boating. It was long and slow but for some reason I liked it. I thought the actresses were charming. Wikipedia says some story elements were taken from Henry James novels, so more reading material to throw on the pile. #1001moviestoseebeforeyoudie

Making our way through "1001 Movies to See Before You Die" and are up to the 70s. Just saw "Dersu Azala" and didn't realize it was directed by Kurosawa or that it was a true story based on a memoir. Will have to find and read the book now. Wikipedia claims that Yoda was inspired by Dersu.

Found at an estate sale last week. Names and location were on the back so I used Ancestry to research who they were. I've messaged their relative and hopefully Barney's photo will be reunited with his great-granddaughter soon (and Millie's great-grandniece).
