Your reluctance to request an ambulance is admirable but given the extent of your injuries I think you should have had one. If you had phoned either 999 or 111 they would have sent an ambulance or 111 would have notified the local A&E to expect your arrival.

A&E should only be accessible to people who are delivered by an ambulance or referred by GP or 111 who must inform the hospital in advance that a patient has been referred to them. Doors will be locked to anyone not referred by a recognised medical body. May sound draconian but needs must
