The Trump administration has launched an FBI investigation into a $20 billion grant program for clean energy projects established under the Biden administration. These funds, managed by the EPA, were intended to support climate initiatives, particularly in low-income communities.

With this new reporting portal, they’re essentially deputizing parents and teachers to surveil their own schools, echoing the fear-driven tactics of McCarthyism.

This would also have a chilling effect on tax compliance. Many undocumented immigrants pay taxes using Individual Taxpayer Identification Numbers (ITINs). If their tax data were used against them, it could discourage compliance, reducing tax revenues and driving more people to work off the books.

Additionally, the FBI returned at least some of the materials it seized from Donald Trump’s Mar-a-Lago residence and private club during a court-authorized search in August 2022.
