Pikmin 3 has an unused object labeled as “test_item_1”. It is a large, pill-shaped capsule with Louie inside, not wearing his helmet.
If this was ever meant to be used in the final game, it’s possible it may have been some early model of an escape pod you’d have to recover to save Louie.
