oh, there was a time where i saw poetry, near every place i looked; in every raindrop, every book— with every single breath i took— by every moment i was hooked and thusly reeled in by the draw of the world as seen through words. but you see, lately i've been moored, in my stagnation i am bored— held to the shore by fraying cords, no sail, no helm: two fatal flaws.

what does it mean to yearn? laid out upon the rocks as waves come down, they crash and burn. to wash away the salt with yet more brine is a mistake—what traces have you found left in its wake? for every sigil carved upon your face there is another on your heart; for every silence that you break you can still find a smaller shard kept safely hidden in your mind.

the daisies we planted this summer are blooming one last time before the autumn air will settle in, before the breeze will freeze them out, before the frost will bite their roots— before that time, you have to choose. the choice is yours with consequence; for what it's worth, i never meant for things to go the way they did.

intrepid its all in the drip, staccato raindrops— i'm taking a trip, and i'm making no stops. so keep up, or catch up, or don't come at all— but you must decide now if you'll answer this call: that imperative urge, the journeyer's thrall— it's a magnetic pull, it's a flight, it's a fall, it's a reel, it's a rope, i am hooked, i am drawn— it's a want, it's a hope, i am lost, i am gone. will you follow, i wonder, into this world vast— will you walk, will you wander, or stay in the past?

every stagnant surface covers depths that we can't see, diving down below cannot be done so easily. every silent moment holds potential for a sound, and once it has been broken no pieces can be found. every seeming absence has a possibility— for more, for less, for different— no telling what will be.

we must conform to confirm with confidence the conditions, hence faux contrition will never suffice. this is a problem not of vice, but one of virtue— not for an absence, but a falsity of faith. the failure to eschew misleading rules can only hurt what trust is left, for the integrity of our own sense of self depends upon external help—

i am thinking of a way i may transcend this fraught defense— caught unaware my thoughts depend upon the moment. on my back foot i must resort to what i know— or else i'll stumble, unsure of where to go. all of these maybe's? they mean nothing, there's no reason they should weigh more than the facts— in point of fact it makes more sense they should weigh less.

buoyancy the gentle swell of rolling waves pressing its kiss beneath my chin a loon floats near, just yards away it bobs atop then dives back in the surface warm with shards of sun light refracts to catch my eye while deeper down flow currents cool where river water turns to brine with sweetest salt upon my lips and sand between my toes my feet sink into the riverbed silt soft beneath my soles further out where i must tread buoyed by a web of ripples spun like the loon i float atop facing upwards towards the sun

suffocating slowly, i'm choking on my heart; i can't swallow my anxiety, it tears my throat apart. my words are made of wire, they are bent all out of shape; everything i touch is glass left broken in my wake. the breeze is always blowing, the ocean never stills, but me? i'm caught, i'm frozen, i've lost all sense of will.

i am on the cusp, balanced on a blade, a tight rope walker with no safety net below to catch me. i find my center in the scalpel sharp incisions in my mind, brain surgery leaving scars behind in my grey matter— it does not matter if my thoughts scatter in the wake of each neat slice. kept on ice, my thoughts preserved, i've lost my nerves, gone numb with analgesic drugs, pins and needles, my limbs are sleeping where i stand, i'm done with walking across balance beams and string.
