My biggest takeaway from this course is that there are many levels to communicating. Communication can be either verbal or nonverbal, and it can be direct or indirect! #UTcommtheory

So my favorite theory to learn about was Media Multiplexity. It was interesting to see how communication was affected, especially after the COVID-19 pandemic. #UTcommtheory

I still think Agenda-Setting is relevant, I just don't think it's as important as it used to be. I do see the impact of gatekeeping. Some important or relevant issues may be kept from you, depending on which agenda the platform is attempting to push. #UTcommtheory

I still think that trying to ban gay marriage has shaped the public agenda, even though it didn't work. #UTcommtheory

Supreme Court declines to revisit gay marriage decision
The challenge to the court's 2015 ruling came from Kim Davis, the former Kentucky clerk who refused to issue same-sex licenses after the court's Obergefell v. Hodges decision, which recognized a const...

I have a parasocial relationship with Tyler Perry. I've watched all of his films and plays. This man has built a career that will be talked about forever. Plus, he has his own company called Tyler Perry Studios. #UTcommtheory

I chose Disney for my media conglomerate. To me Disney is all about promoting family values while also providing wholesome enteratinment. One example would be Snow White & The Seven Dwarfs. It literally started from short feature films and grew into nationwide phenomenon. #UTcommtheory

My meme is having to constantly remind myself that just because it might be funny or relatable, it doesn't mean I have to post it on social media. I still need to have self-censorship. Not just for the time being, but because it could also affect my career in the future. #UTcommtheory

AI intelligence has affected me negatively because it is so easily accessible than it was before. I feel as if it is taking away a part of critical learning without actually working for it. For example, essays and writing any kind of paper. #UTcommtheory

Assertive assimilation is most common for me. Working in a restaurant, especially with younger management. I have to listen and take their directions in order to secure my job. #UTcommtheory

I believe I thrive the best with the participation approach. I love to be included in something. For instance participating makes me feel as if I'm apart of something that is bigger than myself. #UTcommtheory

Wal-Mart is another company that comes to mind that could use a culture shift. I don't agree with the way they treat their employees. I'm sure we've all seen examples of that at one point or another. #UTcommtheory

Pathos: It's not always about what you say, but how you say it! I am a big believer in this. I always try to make sure the message I'm conveying matches my attitude. #UTcommtheory

I agree with Media Multiplexity Theory. I usually add people on multiple platforms if we're friends, or if we know each other from passing. I try and let them know ahead of time usually. #UTcommtheory

Ross and Rachel from the TV show "Friends" are a good example of integration & separation. Ross wanted more time and connection from Rachel. As Rachel's profession in fashion grew, she wanted more independence from. When around their friends, they wanted to be seen as a couple. #UTcommtheory

The axiom I relate to best is 7 (Liking). The more I find out about someone when first meeting them, the more I am willing to open up to them in return. With it being my junior year of college, I really want to expand my social circles. Not just interacting with people I already know. #UTcommtheory

I went on a date with someone not too long ago. The date went well. On the second date, this person invited me back to their place for drinks. Only for me to discover they had a child! 🤔 I have no problem with children, but that is definitely something you mention on the first date! #UTcommtheory

I grew up in a consensual family. Every day at dinner, we would talk about our day, mention something we learned, and current events that happened that day. Just like Nicole from the book, my parents would listen to and hear our opinions, but they ultimately made the final decisions. #UTcommtheory

Option 2. I bother my little brother pretty regularly. He's very particular about his space. He was listening to music while he was lying on his bed. I sat next to him, and he yelled at me for being so close. Later that night, he apologized for overreacting to something so stupid. #UTcommtheory

The communication tradition I find most appealing would be the Semiotic tradition. Signs are an easier way for us as people to communicate without speaking or putting forth little effort. #UTcommtheory

In my opinion, Quantitative Research is the most valued criterion to evaluate a theory. When gathering research, you are not just looking for numbers. You are also gathering practical evidence that would support experiments, surveys, and behaviors in comparison of those differences. #UTcommtheory
