“Are we supposed to be cutting across the grass?” Ed asks as he begins climbing over the barrier with absurd caution. “I told you I was a rule breaker.” Ed has one foot resting on the top bar and both hands gripping it tight. All his brushstrokes are so smooth and confident that this image he’s painting is comical, to say the least. “Darling?” Stede asks amusedly. “Hmm?” “What’s with the statuesque pose on the fencing?” “I bought this suit specifically for this date,” Ed explains. “And how can I be courted or whatever in it if I get it dirty before the date’s even started?” Just inside his chest, beneath his ribs where Ed’s name is almost certainly etched, Stede’s heart squeezes tight. It isn’t logical to cherish someone so vehemently, so… so uproariously, that it hurts. But Ed bought his suit specifically for this date and he doesn’t want to get it dirty and Stede’s head is going to explode. Stede steps in close and takes Ed’s jaw gently in his hand. “The date started when I picked you up.” He drops his voice low, both in tone and volume. “I’d court you, or whatever, in this suit, dirty or not, in your pajamas, or in a burlap sack.” Stede kisses him, soft and sweet, reveling in the little pleased hum Ed breathes out.

okay zheng and archie, there’s only one bed, and they were roommates (oh my god they were roommates)
‘What the…’ Zheng emerged from her bedroom, ready to walk out the door for kickboxing, when a leg draped over the back of the sofa caught her eye. ‘How does this happen?’ Archie was fast asleep in a way that could only be described as incorrect. Her torso was slumped on the floor between the sofa and the coffee table, her lower back was twisted awkwardly, and one arm was trapped beneath her - all of this perpetuated by the leg slung over the back of the sofa holding on for dear life. To top it all off, their pajamas were some mismatched combination of basketball shorts rolled up so high at the waist that Archie might as well buy shorter shorts and a huge sweatshirt that had “Women Want Me, Fish Fear Me” embroidered on it. ‘Archie!’ Zheng called, shaking their leg. Nothing. She really needed to get going, but the way their body was contorted looked so painful that she felt bad. ‘Archie!’ she tried again, but to no avail. God, they were heavy sleeper. Fine. Zheng decided to just move Archie back to the sofa and head out. She pulled the coffee table out of the way and quickly stretched. She got her arms under Archie’s knees and her back, and lifted. And that, of course, was when Archie woke up. ‘Where are we going?’ they asked sleepily, immediately bringing their arms around Zheng’s neck. ‘I’m going to kickboxing. You should probably be going to a masseuse.’ ‘If you carry me like this princess-style, I’ll go anywhere you want.’
