This is my childhood Game Boy Advance, along with two games from my childhood I picked up recently at Retro World Expo in Hartford, Conn. The games are Nicktoons: Attack of the Toybots and LarryBoy and the Bad Apple. They both have their quirks, but I have fond memories of them nonetheless. (🧵1/3)

Charitably speaking, this sounds if Doom was on ZX Spectrum, Atari ST or any video game console/home computer with a very bad sound chip.

Drat, someone's already made that analogy!

WarioWare: Snapped! is even worse in this regard.

The game tries to make use of the DSi's front-facing camera, but I've never been able to calibrate it to where it could detect my movements, so I've never been able to play it.

From what gameplay I have seen, being detected is the hardest part.

System Flaw is a case in point; by happenstance, its one of the few DSi games to have been released physically.

I actually enjoy the gameplay and how it makes use of the DSi's rear camera, but it almost feels like a fake video game you would see in a kid's movie or TV show at the time.

Could say the same with the DSi in comparasion to the original Nintendo DS/DS Lite.

The DSi has its own, improved system software and cameras, not to mention its own games. However, Nintendo treated the DSi's special features as afterthoughts, which is seriously reflected in the DSi's few games.

I went to my local flea market, which happens to have an extensive booth pertaining to video games, and bought me a PlayStation 3 with two games: Gran Turismo 5 Prologue and Skate.

This is a thread of my experience of the PS3 as someone whose first new (at the time) console was an Xbox 360. 🧵

Day 2 of covering Retro World Expo for CBR (@cbr.bsky.social) is complete.

Bigger crowd compared to yesterday, along with more exciting events.

I’m in Hartford this weekend on behalf of CBR (@cbr.bsky.social) to report on the ongoing Retro World Expo.

The first day drew in a big crowd of retro gamers young and old. It’s a wonder what Saturday and Sunday will bring.

Uncertain as to my exact first video game console (split between Nintendo 64, GameCube or Game Boy Advance), but my first (then-)current-gen console was an Xbox 360. I have fond memories of games like Skate, Kung Fu Panda and the myriad of Xbox Live Arcade titles like Marble Blast Ultra.

Sega seeing Nintendo's Family Computer Robot/Robotic Operating Buddy in 1985:

Incidentally, Sega was aiming to compete against Nintendo's Famicom not just as a video game console, but also a home computer (latter's full name Family Computer).

They released the SC-3000, a home computer version of the SG-1000. Apparently, it was more popular and successful than the SG-1000.

Just purchased the SNES version of Lemmings yesterday.

The cursor is a little faster, but the scrolling is slower and it lags when too many lemmings are on the screen. However, considering that the Amiga levels are present, it's a fair trade-off.

A few weeks back, I also purchased 3D Lemmings for my PS1. It's in its original longbox and everything!

Unfortunately, I've found myself not enjoying 3D Lemmings as much as 2D Lemmings. The game comes off as a little clunkier than the original Lemmings.

I purchased the PS1 version of Lemmings - which includes Oh No! More Lemmings - two months ago, and I'm liking it a lot. I've just finished vanilla Lemmings yesterday.

I've got to say, not a big fan of the sudden difficulty spike between Oh No! More Lemmings' tame and crazy levels.

If you see this, quote with your first gaming console.

The earliest consoles I remember playing are the Nintendo 64 and GameCube.

The Game Boy Advance was my first personal console.

The first console I played when it was still fresh was the Xbox 360 with Skate and Mirror's Edge, among others.

What you are looking at are two shadow boxes filled with only a sample of the political pins I received for Christmas back in 2020. The left shadow box I built just hours after learning of the death of 39th U.S. president Jimmy Carter (1924-2024). May god rest his soul.

$5.99 from Goodwill, check date. Who knew Goodwill is still capable of selling something worthwhile?

Me holding an unopened copy of Larry Boy and the Bad Apple for the Game Boy Advance. I got it for Christmas in 2007, I was a big Larry Boy/VeggieTales fan back then.

The Bully, Hugbox Games, MS-DOS, 2014

"The Bully takes place in a fictional city of Mexington, Uennessee. The setting of the game is in a school called “Mexington Middle School”, refered to as MMS." - Description

I made this game when I was 12 and in puberty. What was I thinking.
