New study on networks, status, and gender in @sfjournal.bsky.social with Xinwei Xu. Girls receive fewer status ascriptions than boys, status is mostly granted within genders, and similar behaviors-e.g., drinking-are status-relevant for both genders among students: academic.oup.com/sf/advance-a...

We asked students to name and describe cliques in their peer ecology. One of our core findings is that the use of ethno-racial labels in clique perceptions was unrelated to the ethnic net segregation of friendship networks (“ethnic homophily”). The same was true for dislike networks.
