That may have been the attitude at Los Alamos, but I don’t know that the planners at the Pentagon share it.

Short of total nuclear disarmament, there are practical steps to reduce nuclear risks and the cognitive dissonance of deterrence. The essential first step is psychological, to treat nuclear weapons as a necessary (for now) evil rather than a desirable military capability.
