I’ve been dwelling on a few things of late, such as the effects of AWS going down and how increasingly reliant society is on technology - see James Burke “Connections” The Trigger Effect (1978). Then I came across this again. I can still remember the opening shot of the scientist dropping the flask.

In the good old days (like last year), I’d be doing the last few jobs in the garden in preparation for winter. Having got a kitchen garden going, I’ve been getting the winter crops started and have never been so busy outside at this time. The writing has had to take a back seat for the time being.

Cor blimey! Look at me Charlie’s! Three Radiator Charlie “Mortgage Lifter” beefsteak tomatoes picked today. Total weight 1.3kg. The heaviest came in at 600g!

In the Scriptorium today, the scribes are in the kitchen garden. Lunch is tomato sandwiches. Tea will be tomato salad. Breakfast tomorrow will be tomatoes on toast, and there is a strong possibility that lunch will be tomato soup. Mrs Pritchett is looking up recipes for tomato crumble for pudding.

Purchased from the chemists and only to be drunk when you’re not feeling well.

Editing “Flipside” and the spellchecker has thrown a wobbler at the extract from The Compleat Vissiter’s Gide to Sentennel, with Mappe. I’ve chosen not to add these to the dictionary in case it stuffs up later on when I haven’t deliberately gone off-road with the spelling.

Another haul of red hot chilli peppers, now threaded and hung to dry. Hands have been washed *three times* after the last unfortunate incident. Tempted to make it four, just in case.

The local* free mag has the new mural of Dame Hilary Mantel by the street artist Deggy on the cover. It’s in Glossop town centre on the same wall as Dame Vivienne Westwood (both of whom came from Glossop).

*local as in “a local shop for local people”, which if you know, you’re in the next league.

In the Scriptorium today, the scribes are pleased with today’s lunch. It’s homegrown tomatoes on homemade sourdough granary bread, garnished with homegrown basil. They didn’t make the plate, and the butter and sprinkle of sea salt are shop bought.

In the Scriptorium today, the scribes are assessing the aftermath of Floris’s recent visit. It doesn’t merit the use of the chainsaw, but it’s coming out anyway.

One of these chillies fell off, so I picked it up, threaded it to hang and dry, and washed my hands afterwards. I’ve been caught out by chillies before and wasn’t going to make that mistake again. An hour later, I absentmindedly rubbed my eye. You can’t tell from guess what happened 😫

Age verification?

These two will vouch for me.

In the Scriptorium today, the scribes have found a discarded disc from a box of wine and were reminded of a certain character from a long since disappeared comic.

And before I get distracted by the next thing I’m working on, if the subs for “Pass The Duchy” come to nothing, I’ll go down the indie route and publish it myself. I already have the cover.

In the Scriptorium, it’s one of those days when you just want to snuggle deep into a blanket and wait for the day to go away.

Mrs Pritchett is busy making bread rolls and sourdough loaves. Alexa is waiting for a break in the rain before she nips out to the shops.

Life goes on.

In the Scriptorium today, the scribes would like to share a moment of calm while the world outside tears itself apart.

In the Scriptorium today, the scribes have been rearranging the letters on the notice board again. No, I don’t understand it either.

The kitchen garden is doing well, except for the kale, which the white butterflies have found. Strawberries will be on the way shortly.

So, it has been a bit quiet in the Scriptorium of late. The scribes have been busy doing things, but precious little of it has involved writing. The priory grounds, on the other hand, are looking marvellous. The wildflower meadow (formerly the front lawn) is in full bloom.

In the Scriptorium today, the scribes can report that #NoMowMay is well under way and the spotted orchids are back. Their “no mow” approach is planned to continue until late September (the scribes’ approach, not the orchids, but the orchids are doing their fair share of not mowing too).

The sword-wielding rabbit and two rabbits attacking a peasant were deemed adult content and graphic violence.
