Agree to disagree. But I wouldn’t be wasting money because we don’t have a back up for a few weeks unless it’s a long term target.

I think what you’d get on the market though isn’t going to be an upgrade on what we have at the moment. Theres doubts over Broja long term. I wouldn’t entertain an option on him. But I’d rather gamble on him in six weeks than another available loanee striker.

My view though is Chermiti will be back in 3-4. Broja about 6. DCL with a bit of fortune for nor long after the international break. We’re now essentially safe. I’d be reluctant to throw money at more loans. They’re very uneconomical. A 2m loan fee for 6 months is a 10m player on the PSR books.

Agree. If he were available, even with a City buy back that gives us a decent profit, with the position we’re in now after them three wins, I’d be all over it. Be a statement of intent tor the future pathway of the club

I would too. Broja mooted to be about 6 weeks. One of them is cup weekend. At the end of March international break…. It’s not ideal, but I’d stick unless there is someone available who is a long standing target.
February 2, 2025 at 9:45 AM
Do we though if that means being stuck with a player we don’t really want for 18 months?
February 2, 2025 at 9:38 AM
Maybe. But I’d question it more if Tottenham, West Ham, Leicester etc had bought players.

I just think city are a totally different context to Everton.

City are a financial juggernaut club mate and are a destination club for players.
January 26, 2025 at 8:35 PM
Potentially. But he’s also harder to replace. O’Brien is a step down. Tarkowski I think is on the decline, and every other CB we have is off.
January 20, 2025 at 10:38 AM
I don’t think at his best we would attract better. But if you look at other goalkeepers. Henderson, Leno and Pope, say. The most expensive there is Henderson. 15m quid. Half the price of Pickford. Is the drop off massive if you could reinvest the excess to improve in front?
January 20, 2025 at 6:52 AM
I think Pickford is very good at his best. He can be unpredictable rather than unreliable. My point is as a team dropping to a good goalkeeper would enable us to invest more on positions where the drop off from v good to competent is much bigger. Say central mid or wing. Some may disagree
January 20, 2025 at 6:35 AM
I think the team are low on confidence aren’t they? They’re dealing with the impact of Villa and Bournemouth still. They lost their outball without Ndiaye and Lindstrom. Pickford doesn’t help at times like this either. With so many defenders on the pitch retaining and controlling the ball was harder
January 19, 2025 at 6:00 PM
Not a problem, no. But if there was an offer- and I don’t think there will be myself at a price Everton would look for- I don’t think it’s ridiculous. Pickford and goalkeepers in general aren’t irreplaceable like a Lukaku was. It would generate a lot of headroom for a rebuild. He also makes errors
January 19, 2025 at 5:05 PM
I agree. People talk a lot about sellable players, PSR and all. Money to rebuild.

A solid, if unspectacular keeper isn’t ridiculously hard to find. Also at a decent budget. If someone gave us a good offer- 40m plus- for a player with limited book value- it’d be worth considering
January 19, 2025 at 5:01 PM
Yeah. He’s last player you need at times
January 19, 2025 at 4:04 PM
I think it’s pretty clear from Baines’ demeanour that he doesn’t want to be a manager. My view on him is that he seems happy coaching. Keeping him in the game but also allowing the freedom of retirement.
January 12, 2025 at 9:41 AM
I really think he wouldn’t come in as an Interim. He’s just recently won a European trophy. West Ham’s poor form seems to vindicate his abilities. Maybe, maybe if Bill was still here. But I don’t see it now
January 5, 2025 at 9:13 PM
I don’t think there is a manager who takes a job at Everton for 6 months. Yeah United did it with Rangnick, but they’re reputationally one if the biggest in world football
January 5, 2025 at 9:11 PM
Don’t think it’s overly defeatist to say we’re pretty much nailed onto lose is it?
January 3, 2025 at 5:10 PM
That isn’t to say that I don’t think Dyche’s comments are anything other than totally arrogant ramblings
January 3, 2025 at 4:49 PM
I don’t think coaching is a domain of a DoF. Whilst the role ie important, I think if you’re taking that off a manager it’s a step too far. That’s the manager’s domain
January 3, 2025 at 4:41 PM
He’ll go to a top, top team
