Hegseth looks like the evil Iceland coach from Mighty Ducks 2. Or every dipshit bully in every 80's movie.

I see parents signaling the stance of 'i would never'. My son plays w/ 3 neighbor friends often. They bring their laptops/ipads over to houses and play. They have fun. It's my job to pay attention + be vigilant + teach them about all the gross aspects of digital life. I'm good with that.

2001 is my vote - incredible year. New consoles. Microsoft's debut making it a 3 way competition. It also helped that this was the year my house went from 56k to broadband.

I love your opening paragraph, and the phrasing of how do people take something good, in games or anything, and thread the needle of making a better sequel.

also, I played Hades 1 in the fall, and will also be playing this one in the fall. Just feels right.

I’ve started paying attention more to my ‘screen apnea’. Ive got a timer at my desk for reminders to take deeper breaths. Sad but true.

Screen apnea: What happens to our breath when we type, tap, scroll : Body Electric
Do you have "screen apnea"? Former Microsoft executive Linda Stone coined this term around 2007 after noticing she'd developed an unhealthy habit while answering emails: She held her breath. On this e...

Wow, these threads are making me so grateful that rotten tomatoes didn't exist when I was a kid. So many of my childhood classics getting shat on by critics and I was blissfully unaware.

Been a longtime fan. Just subscribed. You have become my lighthouse in this shitstorm of a time.

This is very true for me. But I fear there's a lot of men in my neighborhood where doing these projects doesn't feel like work but something fun to do on a Saturday.

what's funny is I think 2026 will line up with 1998 so you could use that calendar, if I'm not mistaken

I guess just don't let your child go on the internet at all then? I don't see why Roblox problems are any different than the greater internet problems at large. Idk man, my approach is why don't I use Roblox to teach my kid how to navigate through a digital life and all it's benefits and traps.
September 2, 2025 at 10:10 PM
The article mentions it, but it really is the SOCIAL 3rd digital place for these kids. That's the appeal. The quality of the games doesn't matter.

As a gamer parent my kids will have all the traditional games too. I'm not 'worried' that they will neglect to play Zelda because of Roblox.
September 2, 2025 at 10:07 PM
And is Roblox evil? No. There's a lot of great aspects to it. My son has 4 friends in our neighborhood and they all run over to eachother's houses with tablets/laptops and play next to eachother. There are girls playing in that group, something I didn't see or experience as a 90s nintendo kid.
September 2, 2025 at 10:02 PM
I think all these parents saying 'im never gonna let MY kid play this' is greatly missing how big Roblox is. If you are a parent that can also successfully fend off giving your kid a phone until they are 16, then maybe you can also fend of Roblox. Otherwise, you all will give in eventually.

New Hampshire also passed a similar law/policy which I am very happy about. My kids are similar in age to yours (starting 1st and 3rd grade) so owning a phone hasn't come up yet but I know it will soon. I can't imagine there are many teachers who oppose this.
