There are times when applying some weights for resistance is beneficial for a deeper stretch. If the mind is prepared and the body feels adequately supple. Go carefully as we don't want any injuries. Deepen only as far as until you feel that twinge and then stop there. Breathe into it. Namaste 🙏✨

Holding a pose means making sure to keep breathing. The breath determines the posture and whether you can maintain it beyond the usual limit of extension. Sometimes we forget to breathe and the whole focus and maintenance disappears. Keep the tummy taut too, as much as you possibly can. Namaste 🙏✨

Where do we find strength? Strength of character, mind, body and spirit. How do we access it? In postures that ask questions of balance, poise, form, stillness and consideration. The breath brings us back to our centre so we can find our inner resolve to move forward. An inward journey. Namaste 🙏✨

A colour version for you to enjoy. The lighting is intense so I prefer the b/w shots personally. B/w has a more meditative quality too that links to my practice more, I think. Let me know your thoughts, I'd be really keen to know what you think. Namaste 🙏✨

Before entering Parsvottanāsana (intense side extension) check foot alignment. Looking down I saw they were too close together and needed to adjust them. The arms are behind the back. Hands holding the elbows, or palms in prayer like mine were. Hinge at the hips. It is a lovely stretch. Namaste 🙏✨

Simplicity is not simple it is an act of refinement, of making an informed decision to how to move with intent and therefore with balance. Balance is within the body, as well as with temperance, equanimity. Honing the small actions so they are made stillness. A subtle shift of thought. Namaste 🙏✨

About to enter Bālāsana (Child's Pose). A posture that holds an inner reflection as part of its very nature. Sometimes I like to use a bolster or cushion as it can provide a deeper resonance of release. Any stored tension can be let go in this pose. The muscles soften, the mind quietens. Namaste 🙏✨

Transitions are important, though often overlooked. They are a liminal space as they are in-between one posture and the next. And that makes them especially important to notice how one moves, breathes, rests while there. They are a good indication of what is needed if listening inwardly. Namaste 🙏✨

Meditation is very special for me. It has been the bedrock for longer than I can remember. It is also part of the 8 Limbs - specifically Dhyana (meditation) and Samadhi (liberation). The focus is deep contemplation and achieving a state of unity, leading to spiritual enlightenment. Namaste 🙏✨

Form or formless. It is not about being rigid. It's about letting the posture flow. One way to do that is to play in the pose. Lifting the heel, swaying side to side or rocking to and fro. This helps the mind and body to rest. The fascia is targeted thru the play helping the balance. Namaste 🙏✨

Time is a factor. Patience is the counterbalance. There is no proper yoga pose just intention. If we aren't chasing the perfect pose then there is more room to feel inside and reach a deeper serenity. The Āsanas are seats to find meditation. If we aren't comfortable then it's not yoga. Namaste 🙏✨

Concentration is not a vehicle for more grasping. It is a subtle shift that allows for greater depth either in the body or the mind. It is often both as when is engaged so is the other. This twist can be more dynamic. It was nicely subtle which allowed for some inner work. Namaste 🙏✨

Yoga is not just stretching and moving the body. Yoga postures are a portal to inner guidance and self-realisation. The 8 Limbs of Yoga is the ladder to achieve this. Each pose is an opportunity to get there. Allow the mind to be at one with the body by means of Āsana for it means Seat. Namaste 🙏✨

Ready to fold forward. Why do we say Fold? It is more like a hinging at the hips as we bring our chest parallel to the mat. Legs hip width apart. Perhaps they were a bit too far this time. No blocks either as I placed my hands on the mat. It felt strong but in a good way. Immersive. Namaste 🙏✨

The breath is Key to engaging any posture. The Ego wants to grip and extend quicker, better, faster. But that is anti yoga. Turning to the breath means we can let go of that and turn instead to our intuition. Listening inwardly we can then realise another way. One which is healthier. Namaste 🙏✨

Entering Eka Pāda Rājakapotāsana (one foot king pigeon). I love this deep stretch. There is a relationship between this and Child's Pose with the meditative nature of it, I feel. Allow it to flow through the body slowly with the breath so that the mind is not fighting against it. Namaste 🙏✨

Standing in Tādāsana (Mountain Pose) can feel simple. But that is missing its true nature. It is one of my faves as within the pose lies every other posture. The deep strength it conveys in such a simple act of standing continues to make me smile as I concentrate. Namaste 🙏✨

Prāṇāyāma (breath control) is one of the 8 Limbs of Yoga which I am practicing more and more. It needs to be daily alongside my Āsana (posture) work. I can feel the tension in my body as I hold the breath. And a release of my Ego as I surrender to it. Sitting in Siddhāsana helps. Namaste 🙏✨

A practice of strength from taking time to adjust. Not moving with the intention from the Ego, but with an inner softness. Adjusting the self to listen inwardly and letting go of preconceived notions. Then the posture can move through the body with more simplicity. Namaste 🙏✨

Stepping onto the mat, maintaining the routine and structure of my practice during the holidays is liberating. It's an openness that brings optimism and awareness. This is because of it becoming realised in the present born at a different time. Tuning inwards all things are possible. Namaste 🙏✨

Not gripping, not grasping, but supporting. Being a support to my body, to my self, and allowing my self to move in balance with inner alignment. I listen. Then move accordingly. I allow the free flow of breath to guide me. It is a meditative practice of moving with inner guidance. Happy Yule!! 🙏✨✨
