The SC-200 exam study guide just received a minor update, not really anything that should change your preparation for the exam. This is one my favorite exams to recommend for someone who wants to get into Microsoft cybersecurity technologies and exams, due the Defender and Sentinel skills you need to pass the exam. If you've already passed MS-500 (now retired) and AZ-500, this is an excellent choice as your next exam, because there will be some overlap in the technologies, but expect this exam to go deeper into understanding the Defender family of technologies, and it also goes deeper into Sentinel than you will have seen on previous exams.

The MD-102 exam is about to receive a minor update, only changing the Windows LAPS domain objective. So far we aren't seeing any impact on the exam topics base on the recent addition of Intune suite capabilities into some Microsoft 365 suites, so that might be something we see in a future update. The last major update for this exam was in September 2024, it had changes to the objective domains, as well as quite a few different objectives being added as well as removed.

MS-700 recently received very minor update recently, with no changes in the topics included and removed. With that in mind, it's better to focus on the major update from earlier this year to get an idea of how the exam is evolving. Let's jump straight in to what those changes were. Last month the SC-900 exam received a minor update, updating some grammar and branding, but not adding or removing any topics or sections. If you work with Azure and Microsoft 365 security and compliance capabilities, this should be a straightforward exam for you. If you only focus on the security or compliance capabilities, or only Azure or Microsoft 365, make sure you focus your preparation on the areas that you are least familiar with.

SC-300 has just received an update that removed the Azure roles section and made some minor wording changes in other sections. If you have already passed other Microsoft exams where Entra is a large part of the score, such as AZ-500, MS-102 or the retired MS-500, MS-100 and MS-101, you probably already know quite a few of the topics the exam covers, so it shouldn't be too hard an exam to prepare for, but there are two main things to think about as you commence.

SC-200 just received a major update to reflect the name change of Microsoft Copilot for Security to Microsoft Security Copilot. Due to the changes being minimal this time round, I've kept the details in this post about the changes that were introduced in the October update. Back in October, the exam received a major update, including weighting changes, new topics being added, including a section on Copilot for Security, as well as some topics being removed.

SC-401: Administering Information Security in Microsoft 365 just became generally available. This will exam and the certification it provides replace SC-400 which retires at the end of this month. Unfortunately it's being treated as a different exam and certification, so this is another exam you will need to sit as opposed to being automatically assigned the new certification. My views on this are included in this post, after the analysis of the changes.

SC-100 is about to receive a minor update, in the Design solutions for securing privileged access and Evaluate solutions for network security and Security Service Edge (SSE) sections. What are these changes? In the Design solutions for securing privileged access section, the difference is the removal of the words on-premises before Active Directory. This might seem minor, but it's been an annoyance of mine that "on-premises Active Directory" is used as a general term instead of just using "Active Directory".
