What we see here is a repeat of the 2017 standoff between Kim Jong Un and Trump, this time involving the world’s biggest nuclear weapon states - two big buttons - and amidst a proxy war between them in Ukraine. How close we came to the brink in 2017 remains uncertain - will we go to the brink now?

Consider the case of India. Most analysts consider India’s last nuclear test to have been a fizzle - a failed test of a Hydrogen bomb. I’m sure India’s nuclear weapons scientists would love to test a Hydrogen bomb again.

Personally I wouldn’t be surprised if this is really just a diversion from the the latest jobs report. Raising the spectre of nuclear war, saying the jobs report was rigged and firing the statistician creates a spectacle deflecting attention from the economy - which wouldn’t be beneath Trump.

The first sentence is an acknowledgement that Albanese feared Israel’s response in Gaza would be bad from the beginning. It means he always knew what he calls Israeli “actions” were going to be bad, but chose to support them anyway inc by cutting funding to UNRWA.

Notice that the ABC article linked above has two titles. The one you see above, the one I saw yesterday, and now this one - “Israel said Hamas was looting aid — then it armed the gangs who were actually stealing it.” The latter is more in accord with the actual content of the article.
