Yeah, that one still stings. But even "real" movie companies like Disney haven't put out, say, Barbarian. I think after time passes Netflix may dip their foot in the prestige 4K waters. And if not, I strongly feel that eventually Criterion will come calling.

I think they're going to test the waters more, like the Stranger Things finale and the Cliff Booth movie. If nothing else at least maybe do what Apple does and dump insane amounts of write-off money into projects by top directors. Villanueve probably just got his safety net.

This is potentially awful for physical media and Theatrical screenings, but on the other hand, a company that burns $300 million on the fucking Electric State is not going to blink about whether or not Superman or Batman turns enough profit to justify a sequel.
